Does anyone know what the purpose is of the heavy tarpaper like insulating material used under the door sills?
It seems to run the width of the door sill and is only about 6-8 inches wide so it barely reaches the floor.
Thanks,
Kurt
From the location, I would have guess it was to insulate against sidepipe heat. However, I don't think pipes were an option in 68, right? Could it be that the car once had pipes and the owner at the time tried to insulate a little?
My Feb. 68 has this, although it's in BAD shape. I would guess it's another attempt at sound / water protection? I would like to know where to get these pieces to replace mine????
My car was not a sidepipe car so I don't think it was for that. I bought the car from the original owner and he did not change anything as he was a purist so I believe it was original. It is like a tar paper but of heavier consistency. I am going to use rubber water shield as roofing contractors use.

i believe if you look at the A.I.M you will find a diagram of the paper you describe and went exactly as described under the rug partialy also . look close and you will find the pic.
