    1966 speaker grille installation

I am having the original radio installed back into my 1966 327/350 convertible. The radio grill is not sitting flush with the dash. I have read this installation may be difficult. Any words of wisdom?

    Richard,

It would help if you could show us a picture but I can tell you that it is not common to have a perfect fit, at least in my opinion from what I've seen.

      Update to my previous comment.

      Richard,

I thought you were referencing the speaker grille but I read your post again and I think you are talking about the surround that goes around the face of the radio. I also think there is not a consistent fit with this piece especially if it has been tweaked a little. These usually do fit better than the speaker grille, again from what I have seen.

I am referring to the speaker grille, the black plastic? mesh oval unit that fits over the top of the dashboard (only) radio speaker. It appears to be attached by 4 vertical bolts with nuts, but also sits adjacent to the defroster vent. The lip closest to the interior (away from the windshield) is raised 1/4 inch above the dash. Can it be remounted flush with the dash?

Rich, the grill on my 63 has been up 1/4 inch since I've had the car, long time, I've yet to figure out how to get it to seat properly. I've had it out at least 6 times. I have heard that for many cars that this is normal.

My 63 is the same way. I've seen many others and they all seem to be raised. By the way this part is not plastic it is painted metal.
