    70, 71, 72 Warranty Booklets--reproduced?

Is anyone reproducing the 70-72 Chevrolet and Corvette warranty booklets? If so, how does one distinguish an original from a repro? Quality of printing? Does the adhesive for the protecto-plate come in the booklet or on the plate, or neither?

I don't know that I've seen a source for reproduction warranty booklets for '70-72 Sharks, Rev. There are source(s) for mid-year warranty books and they vary from originals, depending on source, in several areas:

    (1) Clarity of pictures.

    (2) Use of accent color on various pages.

    (3) Presense/absense of tear away sheet for owner's hat/pin.

    (4) Exact text used in first/second owner's boxes.

    (5) Presense/absense of the 'stub' between the rear cover and original owner's recording page (the stub is what's left from the delivering dealer tearing out the last page and sending it in to GM to record the warranty).

A 'sneaky' way to get partial credit and skirt going market rates for having a reproduction POP wacked out, is to visit your local scrap yard and find a Chevy Passenger car booklet/plate. Gotta figure it will NOT match your Corvette, but it will be the real McCoy item and differ from your car's original only in DATE and CONFIGURATION. Judges ought to deduct 40% of the available originality points leaving you credit for 60% (FINISH, INSTALLATION and COMPLETENESS) at a substantial saving...

In my opinion I think there is a reproduction being sold in 69 70 and 71 warranty booklet. I bought a 69 booklet on ebay last year being described as NOS and only to find out that it is reproduced but a very good reproduction. I compared the repro to an original to the one and there was a difference. It was about 97% correct. One of the difference was the back of the AUTHORIZED SELLING DEALER PLATE IMPRINT square outline box was smaller than an original or something like that. Now the seller on ebay doesn't indicate they are repros. So becareful of what you are buying as he has sold lots of them at 125.00 starting price.

Sounds like the unscrupulous practices of Howard9101. I asked him last week about a 65 owners manual he had for $125 (auction 8050397536). The description implied it was an original, but didn't come out and actually state that. I asked him a few specific questions about the manual and he fessed up that it was just a repro. When I questioned him on why he was trying to sell a $12 repro as an implied original at 10X what it's worth, he just said if I didn't like it then don't bid. A prolific practitioner of dishonest business practices, and not someone I would ever do business with.

          Re: Re-issue owners manuals

The unscrupulous seller is one huge problem and the other is the Helm reissue owner's manuals that were sold over the counter. They are re-issue manuals and not technically reproductions as they were printed by the OEM supplier. These re-issue manuals lack the detail that Jack points out, such as lower quality photos etc. Some have full Corvette News cards which confuses the novice buyer. Many of these are unknowingly bought and sold on Ebay as originals. Don't get caught paying full price for a re-issue manual.

Regarding ebay seller as described in Don's posting. As noted he is one of them but there is another ebay seller who is selling complete printed material kits. Warranty manuals from 125.00 to complete kits at 175.00 consisting of manual, radio sheet, visor cards and the list goes on.....I think also the TANK STICKER that is aged. I don't want to name ebay sellers Id but the seller is located in Calgary Alberta. Just a for warning to all members that you must ask all questions before spending your hard earned money.
