Always try to restore the original part. If its a failure, you really aren't out anything but some labor and possibly some paint. Try cleaning it up, remove the paint and repaint the handle. To get the white in the grooves, try praying lightly and immediately wipe off the excess. You'll probably need to do this a couple of times to get the technique. Try baking the black on by placing in the kitchen oven prior to painting white.

    Have fun...

Re: restortation - 67 hood release

I cleaned mine using a wire brush and got it down to the original aluminum finish. After cleaning it with some lacquer thinner I sprayed it with a couple of coats of Rustoleum semi-gloss black(7777?) and let it dry for a few days. I used a white latex paint left over from a counter repaint and filled up a syringe and small needle I brought from the office. After carefully filling the letter depressions I used a wet paper towel and wiped the excess white paint off. I let it dry for a few days and it still looks outstanding after a couple of years. Total cost probably less than $5 and maybe an hour of work. Others with a lot more experience than me might have other methods.

I cleaned up my handle, shot it with 1613 Krylon, then hit it with household latex paint on a foam brush and wiped it down with a damp paper towel. Perfect.

            Use a white crayon

After you strip the paint (laquer thinner should work)paint it let it dry and then use a white crayon to fill the letters- it works wornderful. Just rub it across the letters until it is filled.

              Try praying lightly?

              Steve,

Have you been running around, with your fuzzies on, too long.

              Just kidding,

Hey Jerry, Living in Calif you may want to change that to "praying heavily"

Have a good one. Hope your judging goes well......
