Have chapter member asking advice. Your help is invited.
Car is '63 340 HP in restoration. Engine cast is mid Jan '63, Flint assy early Feb '63, body build date is first week of Mar '63. Engine had incorrect water pump with local rebuilder ID tag on it.
Judging manual says early high horse 327's used "6209" casting WP and late cars used "326" casting. Chapter member has "stalked" scrap yards and come up with correct (clean without casting date inset) and unmolested (upper bypass outlet NOT punched to 3/4 inch) examples of each casting. Now, he asks which water pump casting (6209 or 326) is considered "correct" for his engine.
Since water pump was installed on engine assy purchased from Flint, there is no ECR data in the AIM to support approximate running change implementation. Would appreciate inputs based on research, observation, experience. Please do not offer WAG....
Thanks for your help to a fellow NCRS member who has stumped this judge with a good question!
