If you can provide a web link I'll look at it, but I've never heard of the magazine and have no idea where it might be found.

        ...stock up on CI-4?

I've read a couple of other articles on the upcoming CJ-4 standard, and it's not clear to me if it represents an upgrade or downgrade relative to the needs of our vintage engines. This article indicates less controversy, so maybe the issues are nearly resolved.

Right now, CI-4 is the best available formulaton for vintage engines. CJ-4 will have a better base stock, but the limitation on some additives may be cause for concern.

In any event, the API C-standard oils are better for vintage engines than current S-standard oils and will probably continue to be so.

Costco sells 15W-40 Chevron Delo is six-gallon cases, so I may stock up this year while CI-4 is still around.

I'd say about a year is right and maybe CI-4 will be around longer due to all the older diesels that will probably be around a long time too.

AFAIK the shelf life of fresh motor oil is indefinite.
