1961 conv. top and carpet questions

Two questions: What was the length of the wire-on-strip hiding the staples on this top? I.E. how far down do I put the metal tip? Was any padding used under the carpet, other than the foam on the back ? People are selling it, but it's not in the AIM.

Thanks in advance to the keepers of solid axle knowledge ! MHY

Used to be that the wireon strip was always too short, regardless of the manufacturer of the top. The chrome tips, held with a cross recessed screw, (tips without a flare base are correct) should be installed VERY close to the ends of the wireon pad underneath the material. In other words, you shouldn't be able to feel much of the pad in going from the end of the tip to the end of the pad.

The carpet for 61 is woven into jute and has a dark gray foam rubber backing. No pad was used in productio. People are always tryinmg to sell you something that was never used, like washers for the differential studs that hold the pumpkin.

Hey, you wanna buy a bottle of Pearman's Peruvian Fiberglass Eating Termite repellant? I guarantee that once you treat your Vette with this stuff (distilled water), you will be "safe at last" in "protecting" your Vette from termites.

    Varooooooooom!
