Hate to beat a dead horse however I searched all the archives and couldn't come up with an answer. I bought a used Master Cylinder for my 1960 that I thought was correct and want member input before I ship it off for restoration. On the inboard side it says Delco Moraine Products Div Dayton O. U.S.A. and on the outboard side is 5456022 all in the same size digits above the 1" DIA bore identification. Prior to the 1" DIA it looks like "340" on a cast plate with screw-like castings on either end. the 1" DIA is followed by the Central Foundry "wagon wheel" logo and then "D 8". The hex cast iron cap has a casting number of 5300880 and "M 297" stamped into it. It reads "Use G-M-C Brake Fluid. There is no part number or other stamp in the end plug at the front of the fluid reservoir. What's your take on this?

Re: C-1 Master cylinder identification
Not correct for a 60. The 022 should be larger than the other digits. Plus, the end cap should have 5444480 320-G What you have is earlier vintage because of the 022 being the same size--those m cyls were used on other GM lines besides Corvette.- Top

Re: C-1 Master cylinder identification
Thanks Mike. That pretty much confirmed my thoughts. Couldn't see if the last three digits of the part number were larger on the on-line photos. I was thinking that the D 8 also might be a date code? April 1958? Guess, I'll keep on looking.Keith MacRae
