    C3 Vacuum Hose Routing

I am in the process of replacing all of the vacuum/washer lines for my 69' coupe (headlights, wiper door, headlamp/windshield washers) and have a couple of questions:
(1)Is there any reason why GM has the headlight actuator tubes pointing outward instead of inward for the 'red' vacumm connections? It seems to be a bigger pain routing the hoses for this configuration. When I flipped the actuators from side to side, it appears that I have more room with them pointing in vs out. Is there any reason I haven't figured out why the factory has them pointing out? My hood and everything seems to open/close with no interference and the hoses have a much more gradual bend this way. I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing before closing this all back up.
(2)I can't find any documentation that shows where the vacuum line for the heater control connects (no A/C car). The configuration I have now looks like it was cobbled together by a previous owner- The heater vacuum line is actually connected to the yellow vacuum line for the headlights via a crude barbed fitting just inserted into the side of the yellow hose. This doesn't seem right- Does the heater control connect directly to manifold vacuum? Does it connect with a 'T' fitting somewhere else in another line? Does it need any kind of check valve?
Any advice or pictures would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Re: C3 Vacuum Hose Routing

    Elm,
I have found the AIM manual to be a real help as it will show the way the factory ran it. Also, if you bought a new hose kit, it should also have a useable digram to go by. If not, spend the money to replace 37 year old hoses. Nothing worse than having leaks then to run them down. Worth the money in my book. The JG will help in giving you a little imfo on how the hoses were bundled up and other little tidbits.

      Chas,
I do have a new set of hoses with instructions from Dr. Rebuild and an AIM manual. The diagram that came with the hoses just shows how the hoses need to connect to each other and the various devices, physical routing layout is not part of the kit.
The AIM manual shows both actuators as pointing the same way- There is no difference between right and left so routing is not 100% accurate in this publication either.
In either AIM or my shop manual can I find the proper routing for the heater control.

Do you have A/C? If you do, go to the option section of the AIM. I actually used color pencils to trace the different lines that I replaced. Some of the lines, like the wiper and headlight routing, if your car has the wiper door option, you will have to go to another part of the AIM to see how they are hooked up. I don't know what year your working with, mine is a 71, and I thought the AIM was great.
