    C1 Emergency Brake Repro?

Is anyone making a repro emergency brake flasher for C1's? This is the socket and wiring portion that assembles to the dash. I only need the socket and wiring. I have the entire unit but the wiries were old and fatigued. Both broke off when I was reassembling. There are two on ebay but niether is for corvette and the wires look too short and the connectors are incorrect. The connections on these things get very brittle over the years and that is what happend to mine. Tried to reconnect (solder) and just not good enough. Thanks.

I think all you would need is a bulb socket. It is the bulb itself that flashes.

M&H Fabricators supplies both sides of the parking brake wiring harness assy: (1) their # 1720 harness, $14, runs from the fuse box to the flasher & switch, and (2) their # 1730 harness, $14, is the dash lamp socket connecting to the flasher. These harness assys are for '58-60 cars that had the discrete parking brake flasher module vs. later straight axle cars that used a flasher bulb to eliminate the discrete flasher. Guess, I don't see what the problem is...

        Jack and Gary,
Jack you're rigt. What I need is the socket which has the two wires with the correct connectors for '56-'57. Is this the #1730? I am not familiar with M&H Fabricators. Are they on the internet? Would this be the same item listed in CC and Paragon? They don't really describe it as a socket but rather as a harness.
        thanks.

          Garry--
Are you talking for your 56? 53-7 was different than 58-60 which was different than 61-62.

Thanks Mike. I obviously wasn't clear in my first message. I am looking for the socket and connected lead wires for my '56. I have looked through all of my books. CC, Paragon, etc and can't find anything that says socket with lead wires. Jack must have thought that I was talking about '58-'60 because I checked out M&H fabricatiors and what they have is for '58-'60 not '53-'57. Any ideas where I can get a socket with the leads? Thanks.

Jack, sorry but the problem seems to be that I failed to mention that I need the socket with leads for my '56. This is clearly different from '58-'60 which is what M&H has in their catalog. Any ideas where i might find a socket with the two lead wires? Thanks.

Rob, thanks for the link. I did look and there are things that are close, but not quite. Unfortunately I am preparing for BG and don't want to substitute. An NOS one just came on ebay, but at $135 buy it now I think i may try soldering again. Not happy with the first attempt........or the fifth for that matter.

Gary, Lectric Limited sells the "wiring harness" which, as I read it, includes the wires and correct connectors but not the socket. Bernie

                      Re: C1 Emergency Brake Repro?

Bernie, i checked them too and you are right, they don't carry the socket. The socket is very specific to this item. It has an insulator with two spring loaded contacts where the bulb goes in. The two wires connect on the outside of the socket right next to the insulator and there is very little surface to solder to. Mine was the original and the wires got so brittle that they both snapped off. I am going to try to find some 18 guage tan wire and try to solder again. I called Grossmeullers and they have them listed in their catalog both NOS and used. They are to call me back if and when they find one in their inventory. Thanks for trying to help.
