Does this pad look real? 7029204 FF

I'm not sure why the "70" is missing but I think that is okay. Some of the other numbers don't line up though so I was wondering what you all thought of how it looks.

    Thanks

Not all of these carbs have the "70" prefix; tis is, apparently, one that does not. The stamping looks fine to me.

      Thanks Joe,

I don't think anyone is restamping these yet but with the restamping talk the past few months I was starting to wonder.

      Thanks again,

      Greg

you don't think any one is restamping these? you know how easy it is to rub out the numbers on a Q-jet, it is real real easy!

Well I'm sure someone has tried but I didn't think there would be enough out there to be too concerned about yet...maybe I should be though.

I'm not even sure what a restamp would look like if I even saw one. I imagine the vertical end on the pad would be quite thin from milling, shaving, sanding or what ever else it would take to remove the original numbers seeing as they are usually stamped quite deep. Where there is a will there is a way I guess.

that is what I thought, that you would do all the above and you could tell. I had some old truck Q-jets laying around, so I thought about all the ways one could take the numbers off, just like you said milling ect..So I just took some sand paper an with my finger and some soap. And wiped them out. it leaves a undectable pad! that pad is so soft, an there is a lot of metal. you would think that it would take a lot of metal off an leave a sign where you worked on it but no. Yes they are restamping carbs! I wanted to know how they did it. of course know one will tell, how they do it. but check out ebay they show up there all the time. I my self would not use one because you never know what it came off of. would you feel good knowing your number was a match yet in your heart you knew it came off say a 71 truck?

you know my car is a second flight car, that is all it will ever be. now dont get me wrong it is a real nice car, it makes me happy. I started going to local shows and cruises an having a blast again. why because I stoped worrying about numbers. when we drove the cars, and used them. they are so much more fun that way.

I am not saying you can not having a nice numbers matching car an drive it. you have to do what makes you happy. I am glade NCRS has the sportsman class, I bet it has some REAL nice cars in it!

But agin yes you can restamp those carbs! and if you need one, then I am sure there is some one that is looking at making a buck.
