    Silver Cad

Anyone know of a good silver cad plater? Someone with a quick turnaround?

    Thanks

Jeremy. I used one in suburban Kansas City, MO. I'm pleased with the work.

      Jeremy,

One thing that will make your search easier is to look for a zinc plater rather than cad. There are fewer doing cad plating due to health and EPA issues. Zinc will be cheaper too. GM specs called for zinc or cad. However, I have replated many corvette parts (mostly C2), and they have all been zinc. I'm not aware of any corvette parts that were originally cad plated. Hope that helps.

        Re: Silver Cad

I take my stuff to Aero Propeller just north of Denver, CO. They ONLY do cad plating (silver or with gold dichromate finish and you can specify part by part whether or not you want hydrogen embrittlement relaxation). There's no extra charge for gold tone or hydrogen embrittlement relaxation and the last I was there, the basic fee was $80 per 'bucket' with a $15 EPA surcharge + extra for manual 'prep' if what you send isn't 'ready to plate'. Turnaround varies with shop backlog but can be as little as 1-2 days and as long as 1-2 weeks.

The place is SO CLEAN you can eat off the floor and the reason they do cad work is because they're FAA certified to process aircraft propeller components. Even though the EPA would like to get rid of all cad plating houses in the country, they can't! There are certain 'niche' areas (areospace is one of them) where cad is the ONLY recogized coating system...

Call them at (800) 525-8756 or go to their web site www.aeropropeller.com. They've made a side line of catering to the concours automotive business to supplement their primary line of work in areospace components. GREAT FOLKS!

But, if you don't have a 'bucket' to send (they'll tell you what constitutes a bucket), you're going to pay the bucket rate for the job. So, round up all the parts you want done in one fell swoop...

          Sorry, Jack
Swell Foops were only ZINC plated. Carry on!
