    C-3 75 AM/FM stereo radio option #U58

Hi Gang, I've got a problem with(you guessed it the radio). My FM doesn't work and now the AM reception seems to come in weak. I'm going to RANT now, why does Chevrolet make terrible products for corvettes but the other Chevrolet lines don't seem to have these problems. eq. Tachometer electronics also.

    - Just wondering if anyone else had this problem.
    - Does anyone know how to fix it.
    - Who can fix it.
    - option #U58

    Thanks.

Corvettes live on. Most all other 75 GM products are in the junkyard or melted down. They were not made to last 30 years more like 10. Check for a local delco radio repair man. Your GM dealer may give you a name. Their is allways the Driveline.

You can find these restored on ebay or find a repair service in the "Drive Line".

Don't be too upset, it's an antique!

          31 years old

As noted above, it's a 31 year old car, regardless of the number of actual miles. In fact, cars that sit a lot tend to have more problems than those that are used regularly. My mom had a 1979 5.0 liter Capri and the trans needed a rebuild at 30,000 miles, I had a 1977 5.0 liter Monza and it needed a new trans at 35,000 miles (normal street driving). Nobody ever accused the 1970's cars of being well built anyway ! If you really want a reliable car, buy a new one.

Not trying to pick on you but just stating a fact that cars built 30 years ago when judged by today's standards are basically very poorly constructed and would NEVER sell in today's market.

            Re: 31 years old

Hey Mark, thanks for the humored comment. The reason I said that about my car is because it is never abused, never out in the rain, climate controlled storage. Know on the other hand my 1974 camaro Z/28 type LT is also babied but I've driven it in the rain, is a fully optioned 100,000 mile car now and everything still works. Never had a tach problem or an AM/FM problem, no electrical, or power train problems either. A real pleasure to drive and own.

What I'm getting at is the 74 has no problems, and a 75 which is supossed to have better technology, has nothing but problems. Doesn't mean I don't love my corvette, just like everyone else I wish these simple components that GM has had in other cars for at least 10 years at that time in history, would of solved the problems instead of creating them. The 74 camaro Z/28 came out with the HEI ignition before any other GM product, corvette got it in 75. Yet GM didn't change the electronics for the Z/28 in the tachometer, and they work just as well as the ones that have a point system. Now the 75, they try a new electronic print board and all I've heard is people have tach problems, including myself. Figure that one out.

The stuff is minor, but when you enjoy your car you would like it all to work. Also Mark your not picking on me, your giving me your opinion, and that's what the forum is all about.

            Thanks. Ken.

              Dealership mechanics hated Corvettes

Old cars each have a personality of their own. For the most part, the Corvettes had a certain sadistic streak! There's the easy way and the hard way to anything and I have yet to be lucky enough to have anything go the easy way on any of my Corvettes. That's why most midyear owners accept anything less than 2" of water by their feet as a good day in the rain.

I agree with you that I do enjoy my Corvettes, but like any mistress, they demand a certain amount of pampering or they will surely make your life miserable. You know it's bad when your wife knows she's easier to get along with than the car!

              Keep smiling!
