    1968 7 inch wheels

I'm restoring a '68. The original 7 inch wheels are long gone. I see in vendor catalogs (Corvette America, for example) new OEM sets are sold. Will these pass judging standards? I know I'll need a date coded wheel for the spare but if the trim rings aren't taking off for the other four would the OEM set be OK?

Also, If a car is eqiupped with red stripe tires would the spare also be a red stripe tire?

Thanks for any input. I've just joined the NCRS and it is all a learning process. I do have a '68 judgine guide but it didn't address my questions.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I assume the new Kelsey-Hayes wheels would suffice according to the JG. Many of us have been strapped with incorrect dated rally wheels due to various reasons so it is a good thing that the spare wheel is judged and not the other four wheels. For personal preference I would have all five correct dated but often cost is a factor. The original 15X7 AG code wheels are not totally extinct as I see them on eBay quite often and I know a source here in Texas that has a set of four wheels for sale but may not meet your date requirements. Often the sellers on eBay don't communciate the date codes so ask each and every one.

      Mark -

The spare tire need not match the tires on the four road wheels - it's judged on its own merit. Suggest you get the "Corvette Judging Reference Manual" from the store on this site; it'll answer many questions about the judging procedure and philosophy, and has all the standard deduction listings.

Judging is more lenient, but the car would have been shipped with five matching tires.
