I am new to vettes and want to keep mine in as close to original condition as I can. I have a 1980 L-82 with 16,000 miles which is 95% original parts except for a poor paint job done in the early 90's. I am having it repainted and I am wondering how to remove the door stickers ( certification and tire pressure labels) and how to reinstall them properly. Also, the trim plate, should it be removed and reinstalled or left alone and painted over. Mine is an 80 so it was painted over between the 2nd and 3rd coats. Any help would be appreciated. Also, can anyone tell me if a repaint of the car excludes you from a bowtie award. I believe the remainder of my car would make the grade. Thanks again Jim.

I believe the preferred method is to mask them off and paint over them. Trim plate is not to be removed...just paint over it like done at the factory. If the judges caught it, paint would fail in Bowtie judging and paint is one item in exterior. You can earn from one to four stars, so at worst you could earn three stars depending on the originality of other sections. But than, all the disassembly may be detectable and you may lose scoring in those areas as well. You would be expected to have the car "previewed" at a regional prior to going for Bowtie at a national so you would have a pretty clear idea where you stood before applying for Bowtie which can only be awarded at a National event.Tom Russo
