    Q-jet 71

Idle speed is correct new fuel filter plugs points ect.. the car will drop off a lot of rpms when you go to take off from a stop an just about dies unless you give in some gas. when car is at idle an breather off an you give it a squirt of gas it will die. is the passages in the carb cloged up? car runs fine once you get going. it is just from a low speed idle that it is acting up/car 454 4 speed. any ideas?

I'd think about your power piston spring. 71-72 carbs are notorious for this, and by swapping springs I've helped this.
Also, check your accelerator pump and make sure it's squirting gas when you tip the throttle. Watch the front bbls of the carb (choke off, engine warm) and you should see the gas squirting in the carb from the front near the top of the carb.
