    T-10 on Ebay

The date code seems to be a April 63 but it is stamped March 63? What gears does NN match up with? Any ideas about it being a correct april 63 transmission?

    David,
Actually, it is "cast" March and "stamped" with an April 30th assembly date. This trans was originally installed in a full size passenger car in May, 1963 at the Los Angeles assembly plant. It is a 2.54 (wide ratio) 1st gear. The lack of aging on the 3 forward shifter mounting bosses also indicates an original passenger car shifter.
In addition, the case cast types are correct for 1963. This trans was one of the very last T-10s to be installed into a passenger car before the change-over to Muncies. Also, the brass synchro rings are completely worn out, and the engagement teeth on the gears are also badly worn.
Sometimes Passenger car plants stamped the VIN derivitive on the tail housing (not tail shaft) rather than the main case.

I doubt that this trans could be correct for an April built Corvette, but others are free to correct me...

        Verne and Dave-----

It amazes me how some people (like the seller in this case) look at tranmsmission gears and say or think that the transmission is in good shape because there are no "chunks" or "chips" on the gear main teeth. Even in a totally THRASHED transmission the main teeth on the gears usually don't have any visible problems. It's NOT the large teeth that count; it's the SMALL teeth that you have to worry about. This is where the problems almost always are. As Verne notes, the gear synchro teeth are considerably worn on this transmission. If it were just brass blocking ring wear, it's no big deal. They are easily and cheaply replaced. However, if the synchro teeth on the gears are bad, that's another story entirely. That means a new gear or gears. A few of these will add up quickly.

the T-10 is also much more sensitive to wear on these areas than is the Muncie.
