I did a search of the archives for this subject. In th AIM it shows a #8 and a #9 screw, both used on the kick panel. My reproduction screws with an attached washer are supposedly for the kick panel. The (if I remember correctly) bottom screw that also screws into the bottom hole of the air vent is different than the others attaching the kick panel. Can someone describe, for a 65, what type of screws hold the vent frame in place. Again, this car was in pieces when I bought her. And to think I sold my Survivor 67. I love to work on these old cars. Thanks Dick Gutman

Re: Early 65 kick panel/ air vent screw types
Dick,
The information that I'm providing is from my March, '65 convertible. The vent frames are held in place by 10x24x3/4" flat head, phillips head screws.
Regarding the carpeted, kick panels; the sketches of the screws in the AIM are not much help. I believe that screw 8 (4751359) is a #8x1" sheet metal screw with a phillips head and an intergal washer. Three of them are installed through the metal retainer (14) and the remaining one is installed at the front position of the kick panel.
I believe that screw 9 (9417987) is a #8x3/4" sheet metal screw with a phillips head and a funnel shaped trim washer. They (2 per side) are installed at the top and bottom/middle positions of the kick panel. As shown in the AIM.
A final note about the holes. None of the kick panel screws go through the vent frame. The AIM states that at total of six holes are to be drilled in the car for attaching the kick panels. So don't drive yourself crazy trying to get the kick panel to align with the vent.
Hope this helps, Dick. Keep up the good work.
Regards,

Re: Early 65 kick panel/ air vent screw types
Gene: I appreciate your informative response. My forward mounting holes for my original kick panels do line up with the vent frame mounting holes. Vent frame holes: middle rear and bottom. There are no other holes drilled. These SS funnel washers are crimped on the back of the kickpanels to retain these trim washers. My car is a 1st week in January built 65 car. Thanks Dick Gutman- Top
