57 Shoulder Harnesses??

    57 Shoulder Harnesses??

    I was looking at the 57 Corvette dealer brochure and it states that you could order "safety belts" and "shoulder harnesses" as options. I have never seen one fitted with shoulder harnesses and I don't know where it might bolt to? Anyone ever seen this as a buyer option on a 57 (other than maybe a fully race prepped car)? I know the seat belts were installed at the dealers, but would like to know more about this harness option.

      David,

      I have seen one non-race 57 with shoulder harness. I don't know if it was original, I have my doubts. I saw the car around (not entered) the Monterey National Convention. I think it was a California car.

      The shoulder harness was anchored to the soft top bracket. I could not see the arrangement well and the owner was not around so I could not ask questions.

              David..can you scan and post a picture of the brochure you have listing the 57 shoulder harness belts?

                  I was reading a dealer brochure that is currently for sale on EBay. The image is shown in listing 6622449217. Look at "Interior Features" on the brochure. You will need a decent monitor to read the fine print.

                      David..I have that original brochure and it does mention the shoulder harness. I have not seen one on a production car.

                          Must have been a disconnect between Engineering and the ad agency; seat belts weren't factory-installed until 1958, and shoulder belts didn't become available as an option until 1966.
