I have a 73 in which the front bumper is an excellent fit and condition until recently. The urethane cover is cracked in the upper left corner. Is there any method of reparing this with an epoxy of some type. This is the original bumper cover. Your assistance will be appreciated. tom

Re: 73 front bumper crack
Although 2 part epoxy such as JB WELD can be used with limited success, I think you will find that the aging process will continue at an accelerating rate. The urethane will probably crack in other areas in the near future. Ecklers and perhaps others sell urethane replacements that I understand are made from the original GM molds. Although a bit pricey, I believe it is the best approach for those who want to maintain originality. If this is not a consideration, a fiberglass replacement may be a lower cost option.- Top

Re: 73 front bumper crack
A more flexible product than JB weld is needed. Many companies have suitable products, however as previously said, you are probably beating a dead horse. This is a very common problem with the black urethane bumpers and they are very brittle at that age.- Top

Re: 73 front bumper crack
I agree with Don and Wayne that a repair will not help as soon it will fall apart. On a Bowtie car I owned it kept cracking every time the temperature got below freezing when I took it to a meet.I bought a new bumper cover from the local GM dealer.I made a frame to support the bumper and had my painter paint the new bumper cover in lacquer not even trying to match the color shade. My wife and I installed it and the fit was as good as factory originaland the color didn't match as original. If the fit had been any better it would have been too good to be true. It cost about $500. with a 25% discount. They were gray for a long time but the last one I bought was black.
