C2 hood opened for a longer time

    Hello,

I'm new to the active Corvette hobby. Therefore, some of my question may seem very simple.
I use a battery charger for my battery, which remains in the car. For that I leave the hood opened. Now I'm asking myself if it may be not so good to leave the hood in opened position for a longer time (weeks, months). Perhaps the hinges will wore out or it's not good for the fiberglass hood itself. Or is this really no problem? I would appreciate any opinions.

    Welcome.

There shouldn't be any problem with the mechanicals with leaving the hood opened for extended periods. If you have a light, disconnect it. Make sure the wind won't blow it and cause it to fall shut.

Sure saves wear and tear on your hood release cabl

Shut your hood on the cord or drop it out the bottom behind the wheel.

I almost never latch my hood, even when driving. It just sits there.

I typicaly run the wires under the car and atached to the battery from underneath. I don't use a battery charger I use a battery tender. I leave the hood closed but I don't latch the hood because over the winter I will frenquently open the hood for servicing the car.

          Oliver,

For many years I have left my '66 hood open when the car was in my garage. The X brace/reinforcement on the bottom of the hood is now seperated from most of the hood. I don't know for a fact that leaving the hood open caused this, but I suspect this is what happened. The hood is only supported on one side when open, this tends to cause the hood to twist. I think this caused my problem. Just my opinion. Bill

Those hoods are not heavy enough to cause any problems. If it is separated it would have been anyway. After all they were never bonded at the X brace anyway.
