Have you guys replaced the cable, only, in the front section that houses the parking brake cable? .. The cable housing itself is still in good condition. How best to swage the steel balls on the cable ends? .. Or, is it better to just replace the complete assembly with a new one? ..

Re: parking brake cable
I will go out on a limb here, but someone posted a nice article on this in The Restorer quite a while ago. I think it was Gary Beaupre and the article, IIRC, showed a re-swaging on the ball and the differences between repro and original cables. Again, this is suspect because it is all from memory.

Parking brake cable; buy a new one
John,
I would suggest against rewaging the used ball on the end of the cable. Take a look at my article in the Restorer from a few years ago and you'll see my results at reswaging a used ball. I was never able to attach it with the same strength as original.
Inline Tube (http://www.inlinetube.com) has some excellent reproduction cables that I think should pass judging without a points deduct, as least they do for rear brake cables for '65 thru '80 (I think) Corvettes.

Re: Parking brake cable; buy a new one
Yes, now I remember the parking brake article you wrote in the Restorer! (CRS). I contacted Inline Tube to inquire about a new parking brake cable. Seems they don't have the front section cable assembly in their inventory except for '67-'82 model year cars.
I was told a custom cable can be made if the old factory original cable assembly is sent to them so they can copy it. I might do that.
Thanks, Gary and Gary, for your replies.

Parking brake cable; custom made
John,
If you go the custom cable route, can you update us in the future on how it comes out and what it winds up costing? You might find some other mid-year owners who would want to go in with you and get more that one made, which might significantly lower the per cable cost.
Thanks,
