Chevron Delo 400 CI-4 Oil

I recently bought a jug of Chevron Delo 400 oil and noticed on the label it read: "formulated with ISO SYN". Does this mean that the oil is synthetic base?Perhaps some of our resident oil experts can reply to this one.Thanx!

It's probably "marketing". You might find more information at the Chevron/Texaco web site.

Thanks, Duke. I went to the Chevron website and found the anawer to my question. It is an additive process, not synthetic oil base.

All oils that are formulated to meet the API CI-4 spec have virtually the same base stock and additive package. The conventional mineral oil bases actually have a small percentage of synthetic base stock in order to meet is the tough CI-4 oxidation requirements.

I checked a jug of my Delo and found it has that symbol, but I never paid any attention to it.

I believe it's just marketing hype - akin to "Pennzoil with Z-7".

I'm not knocking Delo - it's what I use - but every company wants to develop some "marketing message" to try to differentiate their product even though competitor's products (like Mobil Delvac or Shell Rotella) are essentially the same.
