    Paint scratch

Well I finally finished my C2 bucket motors. The L/H motor took me 3 days to install !! The removal & rebuild took 2 hours. I Used my electric drill & small round grinder to clean out the hole on the motor bracket to slip over bucket shaft. Then it went in easy. I did the R/H motor also so they would operate evenly. This one took 2 hours for everything. NOW,A tool fell on my beatiful BC/CC paint front clip. Left a 3" surface scratch! Yes, You can feel it with your finger nail.
Does that mean I will have to live with it ? Anybody know how to make scratch disapear? (wishfull thinking) Any way buckets work great. Don

Depending on the depth of the scratch, you may be able to sand/buff it out. If you feel uncomfortable doing this take it to the person that painted it. If you have a good buffer and want to take a stab....

      1. Sand VERY VERY carefully with 2000 grit wet sandpaper using a rubber sanding block and water. It will probably only take a couple of strokes.... DO NOT just use your fingers!!!
      2. Buff it out using 3M #05973 RUBBING COMPOUND and 3M wool pad
      3. Buff that out using 3M #05995 FOAM PAD POLISHING GLAZE and Foam pad
      4. Finish up with Meguiars Wax or equal

When buffing keep the buffer moving, rotating fairly slow, and stay away from paint edges (they burn thru very fast) Buff/polish just enough to bring up the shine. Too much and you'll be in the base coat... not good!!!

      Good Luck!!!

Joe, Steve's advice is very good but, I would take it to your local body shop for a professional assessment first. If they tell you that the scratch is probably through the clear coat there is no use in trying any of his recommendations as you will only compound (no pun intended) your problem. If it's not throug the clear go ahead and use some 2000 wet or dry (use wet with plenty of water and rinse the paper often). Wipe the water away with a clean sqeegie to check your progress. Only go as far as you need to remove the scratch! You definately DO NOT what to sand or polish through the clear coat! If you do you will be back at the body shop for repainting of the panel. You may be able to live with the scratch but you won't be able to live with the appearance of the clear coat sanded off. The color coat with no clear coat to protect it will wear off faster than milk on a kittens plate.
