    C1: Wheel weights

I'm getting ready to mount my Firestone vintage tires on the original wheels and I see that Paragon sells wheel weights that say "micro" on them. Apparently these are correct for judging. Is it worth it to buy these? How many points to you lose for something like that? Does anyone have experience with how many of those things I might need to buy for 5 wheels? They sell em in 1 oz, 1.25 oz and 2.0 oz sizes.

Technically, the configuration of those "Micro" weights are incorrect, as they carry both the English (ounce) and Metric (Gram) markings; in the grand scheme of things, that's worth a max of one point.

So I guess you guys are telling me not to worry about it.

Would you go so far as to say its OK to use those new style flat weights that you mount on the inside of the rim, which would keep the wheel faces nice?

I suggest you do not put any weights on the outside face of the wheel...

gfo to junk yard or old established tire store in your area looking for original aviordupois system of weight markings as metric marking will cause a deduction. mike

Had the same "micro" weights as Paragon (with both English and metric weights). By the way, Bada - the maker of Micro weights - apparently is trying to push "lead free" weights as balance weights are apparently a huge source of lead pollution in the environment.

                      Dave,

Depending on who judges your car, wheel weights are a judged item and some judges will look for the oz designation appearing twice on MICRO weights equal to or greater in weight than 1.0 oz. And some judges will indeed go to the trouble of looking for the correct weights on the inboard side of the tire, so you can't necessarily hide incorrect weights there. And if you choose to use no weigths at all, common sense judges are unlikely to accept the argument that all 5 of your tires were in perfect balance and didn't require any weights.

As Mike#14 suggests, you should be able to find some old MICRO weights at a junk yard so long as the yard has cars from the '50's and 60's.

I would suggest not buying the Paragon weights since the metric designation is a dead giveaway and if you grind off the metric number, you will be left with a weight that has the oz number embossed only once, not twice as it should be for weights of 1.0 oz and larger.

                      Gary

I think you just apoligized, but not sure because I recently traded my latin dictionary in for a "instant messenger" model so I could keep up with my kids...
