    C1 Gas Filler Compartment

I need to know the extent of the paint overspray on the rubber gas vent hose, gasket and bumpers if the gas filler compartment of a C1. If these items were present when the body was painted, it seems they would have more than just overspray on them. If they were installed after body painting, they would have none at all.

Correct - those items were installed on the Trim Line, after paint.

My experience is that the vent hose the vent hose bracket and the small bumpers were painted and in place prior to paint. The gas tank neck was also in place but it was masked off. The rubber gasket was then but on after paint so is not painted. This is also what the JM says for 58-60. I don't know what is correct for earlier or later C1s.

Rubber parts don't do well in a 280*F oven for 60 minutes.

My car is a 58. The judging manual states "fuel tank vent rubber hose, vent hose grommet, rubber door bumpers, and metal hose retainer must appear with paint overspray." [Page 35,Fourth Edition] I had points deducted because there was "too much paint" on the vent hose, bracket and bumpers. I am confused because it would appear too me that these items were either painted with the fuel filler area or not painted at all. I don't think you could paint this area and merely leave "overspray" on these items. I want to repaint this area for the judging, but I want to do it correctly.

My 60 had bare glass under the gas door bumpers as well, and paint on the hose and clamp. The filler tube grommet had obvoiously been masked, but still had some paint on it. I have watched many a 58-60 judge pull a door bumper back with their fingernail to look under the bumper!

John (That is my point) On those restored Vetts having a million dollar paint job, I should see a high Dollar paint job in that area then overspray.????
Some one tell me how they did that!
