    "59 power top?

A friend of mine has found a "59 corvette that he claims has a power convertible top. I"m not exactly sure if its mechanical or hydraulic but question is were there any corvettes made with any sort of power tops?? I"d be interested if anyone has any info on this subject.

This was a regular production option from 56-62. It was fairly common on earlier cars, but by 61-62 had dwindled to just a few hunderd each year. It is electro-hydraulic in operation.

They're a joy to watch in operation, but be prepared to bend over if you have bits & pieces of original system in need of restoration. Here's a situation where the NCRS Judging Reference Manual, Standard Deduction Section, shows the fairness of the club's prohibition against owner/dealer inspired option addition or DELETION....

          Jerry,

George King, just outside Philadelphia is excellent & reasonable on power tops. I'll email you direct with his phone number & other details.

I have the name of another NCRS member who used to do power tops when I rebuilt mine in 1992. E-mail me and I will look it up for you. I have rebuilt my entire system but do not consider myself "an expert". As the earlier post stated it is electio-mechanical. The GM service manuals are as good of source as any. Pretty straight forward. Don H.
