I have the original rocker panels from my 73 which obviously have some road rasch. The damage is primarily on the bottom edge . Can this pitting be buffed/sanded out. As you may know new panels donot have the little tab in the front and are a bit spendy. So hope to refurbish as good as possible. thanks

The metal on these panels is pretty thin aluminum. If the pitting is very deep, at all, you'll end up with some VERY thin metal when you're done. You might even "go through". Also, having the panels re-anodized will likely cost more than new ones. Still, it would be nice to save the originals you have if you can. Here's what I'd do: clean up the panels the best you can using non abrasive methods. Then, lightly sand the lower, pitted area. Try to remove the light pitting but don't get too aggressive in the heavily pitted areas. You'll just have to live with them. Last, apply a protective clear coat to just the sanded areas.
Be very careful when you sand that you sand ONLY the areas that absolutely need it. Don't go beyond what you have to.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 73 rocker panels
I agree with Joe to try to spiff 'em up a bit. After I got a quote for $400 plus shipping to have them stripped and reanodized I fell in love with my original tabbed ones just as they are. $400 plus shipping.....jeez. At $3.00 a gallon for gasoline do the math.- Top
