There is what appears to be a very unique car listed on ebay,#4632844503. It is a 67 L71 coupe with quite a bit of purported original documentation. What struck me is the tank sticker shows a 4.56 posi rear with a M21 trans. My understanding was that the 4.56 rear was only available in the L88 with a M22 trans. Are there any documented 67 L71 cars with this rear and a M21? On the tank sticker the rear is even coded G81UA which is the L88 with M22????

I dunno Rob; color me skeptical
The word "original" is carefully employed in reference only to the body, jack/handle, and bumpers [which even a base car had]. The rest is "restored to original spec's" etc. [which could mean anything]. The 4.56 FC carrier assembly (positraction, complete with ring and pinion gears) was available over-the-counter Group 5.505 -- #3899141, and I have seen them on eBay with '67 assy dates.
As to "full documentation", again, in this day of reproduction art that could mean anything. The star of this auction should be the paperwork, yet no readable close-up pics of window sticker, tank order copy, or protect-o-plate are shown (apparently he will send). And why hasn't this car been judged on any legitimate circuit before showing up on eBay ?
I may be overly cautious, but a serious buyer should be at least considering these points. Also read his feedback; 97% is not steller performance in eBayland.

Re: I dunno Rob; color me skeptical
I always find it a bit odd when a seller posts up nice, clear close-up photos of things like brake cailpers and MCs, but not a single pic of the T Tag, VIN plate or engine stamp pad, let alone the supposed tank sticker or POP which should be his pride and joy / claim to fame . . .
I agree the ad is carefully-worded - aside from the gratuitous use of "#s matching" I don't see any overt claim that the engine is "original" although that would be implied by the unwary buyers; seller does make it clear that these rare options are original to the car and make it that much more valuable, however.
By the way, VIN 194377S103954 would have been born on November 16 1966 (I think) and that t-tag has the same body built date, I guess on St Lou bodies the spread can be rather tight; someone could look up that "JG" ecl code (assuming T Tag is not repo and he has reported that info faithfully) and see if those headrests, shoulder belts, PWs, etc. are supposed to be there, if not this would then crash the paperwork that lists them as OE.65 MM Convertible, L76 (365 hp)- Top

Re: I dunno Rob; color me skeptical
Jack, I agree completely with your assessment. Interesting that you mention the JG code. I looked it up in Noland's VOL#2. The headrests, shoulder belts and power windows are correct, however it lists JG a second time with an asterik. The footnote says it was used from 12-19-66 through 3-29-67 only. If I understand that correctly then the 11-16-66 build date is suspect.- Top
