    69 radio

The previous owner of my 69 cpe called to tell me he found two radios from his old 69 and 68 vettes. Said one belongs in my car. How do I tell which radio goes with my 69. Thanks in advance, Curt.

    Re: 69 radio

Typically, the 68 will have two black and two green speaker wires coming out the back. So, one black and green pair going to the left and one black and green pair going to the right. If they are not cut, they will be about 27 inches long. The 69 radio is basicly the same radio as the 68, if not identical except it will have two green wires coming out the back and one black wire. These wires plugged into a harness that split and ran out to the speakers similar to the 68 set up. These three speaker wires on the 69 were about 6 inches in length. They went to the short wires with a plug because of ease of serviceability. Now, very early 68 radios were weird....I think I have only seen a few and I think they had the transistor amplifier mounted to the back of the radio. Not certain about that though. You should be able to figure out which is which. Good luck, Terry

Knob styles are way different between the two years of radios, if still present on the radios.

You don't say if it ia stereo or not. The lettering for that is different in 1968 and 1969. A detailed description of the radio and pictures of the knobs are on page 10 of the JM.

          Re: 69 radio

It has been a while since I looked, but my recollection is that there are paper tags on the radio with number on them. I believe the model number contains a year, or with the radio manuals can be converted to a year. Look and see if the tags are still on the radios and post the information from the tags. Someone, maybe even me, can convert that to a date for you.
