what is the best kit on the market? I found one that crane cams makes for about $65. any one use this one? I know of the others for about $150. the one from crane will let you set a rev-limiter. it is a two wire an the other says it is a one wire. so what are you sneaky guys using?

Dave uses the "Breakerless SE" one-wire system manufactured by M&H Fabricators and marketed by Lectric Limited.

I agree. Breakerless SE is the way to go. I've used the breakerless SE and the pertronix unit. That annoying second wire is a dead give away.

It depends on your definition of "best". My definition is that if I am in south Georgia on I75 or I-55 near Lincoln, IL on a Saturday morning and the ignition quits, can I get parts?

The case is that with a Chevy HEI from a '75 up, you can.

It won't pass NCRS judging, but then, that is a different definition of "best".

Lyndon,

Whatever system you eventually pick up, I was given some good advise to keep the points you replace in your storage compartment. Should the electronic ignition ever give way to failure, you've got the old points readily available as a backup. I've been using the one wire Breakerless SE from Lectic Limited for 4 years now without any incident of failure and the car runs strong.

Mike, Your definition of "best" brings up an emerging problem that I have encountered, that of the unavailability of parts that we use all the time in our 40-45 year old cars. Items such as points, condensors, oil filters and even spark plugs have what I call the "Huh? Factor". When you tell your FLAPS clerk what you want, he or she says "huh?". Most of the time, the part you need has to be special ordered, but at least they're still being made, even if it is in (ugh!) Mexico. As our cars get older, we will see this type of thing more and more. Stock up!

I have used the pertronics 1 and 2 and now have the crane unit with the revlimiter. All of them work great, I used shrink wrap to cover both of the wires to make it look like a one wire stock setup. I like the ease of installation with the crane unit and the rev limiter is the only one of its kind out there. If you miss a shift at high rpm, it may save a motor rebuild. For 65 bucks you cant beat it!!

thanks I am going with the crane unit, I dont show my car any more. so that one will be the best one for me.
