C1 Heater Seal to Fire Wall

What is the correct sealing compound and color to seal the heater to the firewall? Thanks, Jimmy

    Jimmy -

    3M Strip-Caulk ("dum-dum") works fine.

John, is it black or gray? Thanks for your reply. Jimmy

I might be reading your question wrong, but my experience is that the large black rubber gasket that seals the air intake piece (snout) to the rest of the heater is also the seal to the firewall. That's the case at least from 56 through 62.That is a black/charcoal color.

mike: perhaps john h is thinking of the c-2's which did have a tar-like substance that sealed the duct to the firewall. mike

I have always got a deduct if black dum dum was not around the fresh air box on the firewall and around the heater hose where it goes thru the firewall.

                Mike -

I was trying to recall my '57 (which I did ten years ago); I think it used a formed gasket between the air inlet housing and the firewall that was made from a dum-dum type material, which one could make from strip-caulk material. Just looked in the Doc's catalog, and sure enough, he has that formed "putty" gasket. CRS after ten years
