C2 heater box rebuild

(see photo below ) The rebuild kit (Dr. R) that I have does not address these two doors which are located below the defroster vent. The one on the left had what looked like felt around the perimeter. It appears that two plates clamped a ring of felt and then were spot welded. The only way I can see to replace the felt is to drill the spot welds to seperate the plates. Is there another way? The one on the right has 2 staples in it, but there was no seal material on it when I disassembled the box, so I don't know what the replacement seal should look like. Any comments on these doors and replacement seals would be appreciated.

Steve, correct. The second design of the 63 box that started about April of 63 does not have the felt.

I agree with your solution approach, drill and add new felt.
