    C2 Console Restore Question

I found a very nice C2 Powerglide console on EBay for a good price. The shift plate and ashtray cover have minor scratches so I purchased a rebuild kit. Q: What adhesive holds that shift plate on and how should I remove it? Hair dryer heat?

    Hi Paul

I have a 66 PG. I removed the plate with a razor blade to start and a very thin putty knife. I also used a heat gun to help things along. The plate came off in one piece however I don't know about restoring it. I took it to our local chrome shop as they have a very good metal restorer there. He said he thought he could restore it. I finally found an NOS plate on ebay and retrieved the plate. If you are as pickey (sick) as I am you will not like the reproduction plate as you will see when you receive it.

    Good Luck Jim

Thanks Jim. That's the method I thought of using. I do have the plate and ashtray restoration kit and actually the plate looks pretty nice.
