1968 convertible tension cables
Can anyone shed some light on the installation of these cables that run along the top of the side windows? I have looked at 2 cars, one early and one late, and both are different. I do not know if they are correct. I got cables from Al Knoch and do not see any way to install the ones he sent and have them work correctly. Has anyone done them or know a site that sheds some info? Thanks. Steve- Top

Re: 1968 convertible tension cables
I'd like to get the story here as well. I've searched the archives to no avail. The chevy chassis manual for 1968 doesn't illustrate or mention the tension spring at all, and some parts suppliers show the tension spring from '69-'75. My car didn't have them, but I'm not sure that the frame is original. It is not illustrated in the '68 assembly manual, but that might just be because the top is shown as an assembly.- Top

Re: 1968 convertible tension cables
This is helpful, thanks for the post! It is clear from the pics that the aft mounting point is with the rivet at the top rear corner of the window frame. The Knoch video shows the forward mounting point, which seems to be hole in the sheet metal on the front bow, which also gets a rivet. I didn't see a similar hole in my '68 frame for the front rivet. Maybe the '68 is different? Note that Doc Rebuild's catalog shows a different part number for '68 than for '69-'75, which I'd guess is a different length.
Still puzzling why the '68 body manual doesn't reference this.- Top
