Mike..I think what you see is effected by scanning the picture. It is a blue A56C blue in the original picture.

I think what appears black in the scan of the picture is the edge of the lid!

Lucky it is this good for an old polaroid.

      Pretty rare stuff.

Joe, According to Noland Adam's book air box cars used an ac element part #1553182. Non-air box used the blue AC 56-C 1553251.(except for the early louvred ac's). Don't know the AC number for the air box car element but we have always thought it was a little larger. Ken Kaiser has this info if you need it. John

            element part #1553182

John..I went back and checked Nolands..comments and the 57 AIM...and you are right..about the #1553182 being designated as the element for the air box..

Now I am curious what the differance is between #1553182 and #1553251. The picture I posted is the only one I have that shows the filter in a real car before restoration and it appears to be at minimum an AC56.

I will check with Ken to see if he knows or has the blueprints. I wonder if a member has an old AC Delco filter book that can identify the AC# for element 1553182.

I figure if historians can determine what the Egyptians did 5000 years ago..we should be able to find out what GM and AC Delco did 50 years ago.

            Many thanks,

            Joe

Hi Joe....I have an AC Filter interchange book, but is dated as April '79 and doubt that it goes back far enough. I'll look anyway when I get a chance and let you know if I come up with anything....Regards Frank

I looked at the remnants of what appears to be the original air box air filter element from a very complete unrestored air box car today.

I need to send the dimensions of my original A56C to the owner for him to compare the specs.

Joe...I looked thru the AC filter interchange book I have and only confirmed what you already knew. Looking thru my March '65 Chevrolet parts book, and I found in addition to the element #1553251 (A56C) that is was used with air cleaner #1553181. But you probably already knew that. I scanned a little bit but did not see #1553182 (probably removed before the parts book was printed???). As I am not a C1 guy, which one is the air box #? Wish I could be more help. Regards Frank
