    Carburetor Rebuilder

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good carburetor rebuilder (Q Jet)? I saw "Recarbo" and "Carburetor Exchange" listed on the web, but have no experience with either of these outfits and really trust the recommendations on this board.

    Thanks Guys!

I think that most on this board will recommend either Bob Kuntz or Jerry Luck for your carb work. Check the archives for contact info.

I had mine done by a guy named Lars Grimsrud. He does this for a living, specializes in Rochester carbs, very reasonable, quick turnaround time and he tests all Rochester carbs on a running vehicle before shipping.
You can read about him on CorvetteForum.com
He has written several papers on Rochester carbs and also distributors.
Everyone who has used him RAVES how great he is so I used him. My factory correct Rochester on my 68 small block has never run better.

Is that Lars of "Tuning for Beer Tour" fame?

          One and the same.
He even started a free carburetor loaner program. He sends you a carb to use while yours is being tuned by him, and when you are done with it you send it to the next guy who needs it or back to him. Only cost is postage to ship it.
I paid someone $250.00 to tune my Rochester and it did not run right.
Sent it to Lars, runs like a Rolex watch. Rochesters have gotten a bad name over the years, but accordign to him, when they are set up correctly, they are one of the best carbs out there.
I don't even have to get in my car to start it. I reach in the window, turn the key, and it starts right up. Unbelievable, and idles so nice.

I just sent my carb to Bob Kunz. I was told by my painter he is the best.
He is in Missouri (314) 843-7545

            Good luck...John

I had mine done by Lars also, and it runs fantastico ! He knows what he's doing. I went on the recommendation by the dozens of people on corvette forum, and I wasn't disappointed. He also re-works Delco point-type distributors. Look him up - Mark

I am interested in rebuilding the carb on my L72 (list#3247; holley 4150 model) and would like to obtain a used service dated 4150 model that I could take apart and study to get familiar with this unit before I proceed with the rebuild. Can anyone recommend where I could obtain such a unit or, if someone on the DB has a spare one for sale, please let me know. Thanks

I TRIED to purchase my carbs from Bob Kunz (WCFB 270hp '59) in 2004, but he gave me such a long lead time that I decided to go with Jerry Katter in West (by God) Virginia (he advertises in Hemmings). His bid was cheaper than Kunz and his availability was immediate.

And......I made absolutely NO adjustments to them, not even the idle speed. They fired up right out of the box and they've been running that way ever since! I am VERY pleased....

Acually Holley can rebuild any carb....and the result is some of the best I have ever seen.

I recommend Craig Woodward, Youngstown, Ohio. He provided me a date coded Holley 4160, list 3367 for my 66 SB. Carb runs great-- looks great. Bill Clupper recommended him to me. Reasonable price and fast turnaround. I'm still waiting for a return call from Jerry Luck 5 years later. I understand that he has health problems.

                        EBay.

Buy a junky one. Should be around $20. The spare one is also useful for the little parts that you might lose in the course of your rebuild.
