I've been around the block with this a couple of times with no success. Trying again. For lack of a better term, I'll call it an assist spring for the choke coil. I've seen this spring attached as it is in the photo,(1), and I've seen it not attached to the slot in the vacuum break.. Attached as in the photo my choke closes easily. It does seem to take longer for the choke coil to overcome the assistance from the spring. So the fast idle is on way to long.
However, if I do not connect the spring end to the vacuum break, and it rests on the lever directly below the slot,(4), there is no assitance because the spring is wrapped around the same lever, and my choke coil has a problem closing. The rest of the spring is coiled around the shaft, behind the peened over oval end of that lever(2). The other end of the spring is visible sticking straight out the bottom of the lever(3). The linkage moves freely, the choke coil is new and correct, the choke rod is new and also correct.
I'm hoping someone knows exactly what this spring is, its function and how it attaches. Thanks in advance.
