    1979 Alarm System

Trying to trouble shoot my alarm system on my 1979. It shorts out the fuse in about 2 seconds after it is turned on. No time to even test it with opening the door. My thought would be a short in the key switch as it doesn't get activated before the short occurs. Any suggestions on how to isolate the location of the short would be great. Thanks Tom

Having a set of circuit schematics would help you trouble shoot things. Fortunately, Chevy began to publish REAL schematic diagrams (vs. the 'funky' and incomplete wiring diagrams provided for early Corvettes) in the mid-70's. What you want is Chevy Publication number ST-359-79 (last two digits specify the model year) which contains full electrical schematics for all Chevy Passenger Cars. Perhaps Helm, Inc. still has copies for sale...
