    1971 LS5 engine compartment

I am having my engine pulled and will be able to work on my engine compartment with much more space. If was to repaint the engine compartment what type and color paint should I use? Aslo what was done with the hood on the engine compartment side?

    Thanks guys...save the wave...

You're correct; with the engine out, now is the time to detail and restore the engine compartment.

For an original-appearing, semi-gloss black paint for this application I recommend GM #1050104. This is a chassis black paint which has been available for many years from General Motors. It is supplied in 1 gallon cans only and you must have some sort of spray equipment to use it. It sells for about $40 per gallon. If you order it from a GM dealer that doesn't normally stock it(and VERY FEW do), they will probably want you to buy a full case of 4 gallon cans. However, you can purchase this paint from Quanta Products (www.quantaproducts.com), Eckler's, and probably many other Corvette vendors and will be able to purchase a single gallon.

The underside of the hood was painted with the same semi-gloss black.

      Ron,

I would suggest using Krylon semi flat black. It's easy to use and matches the original finish fairly well. Seems like I use cases of this stuff!

Ron, There should be very little paint directly under the left and right ledges of the hood opening also down low on the engine compartment there was very little paint(spray)
