OK, I feel really bad about this one. My newly rebuilt engine is installed and most every accessory as well. I thought I was only days from firing it up. Then tonight when I went to install the oil temp sensor, just above the oil filter, it won't screw into the hole in the block. The threads in the block don't look that bad, so I'm a little baffled, but its also hard to get a good look at them, since the engine is installed. So, I compared the sensor to some bolts and pipe and the threads appear to be 1/4 NPT. I tried and couldn't get the 1/4 NPT ftting to screw into theblock either. Anyone know for sure that it is 1/4 NPT? Any ideas other than buying a tap and cleaning up the threads? I haven't done much work with taps before, so I'm wondering if I'll even be able to get the tap to start threading into the hole. Thoughts?
