Force cooling on the Corvette SS?

Hi all,

I've bought recently a nice picture of John Fitch during the 12h Sebring race in 1957 inthe Corvette SS when I noticed a strange detail on the door of the car. It looks like some sort of exhaust pipe sticking through it. I think it is some sort of ventilation system which forced cooler air in the hot, magnesium bodied car. I just want to share this picture with you (see detail below).

The Duntov SS magnesium body Sebring racer..had a serious ventilation problem..causing way too much heat in the cockpit. Since the car arrived about a day or two before the race..adjustements were made on the scene..by adding cooling ducts to push the hot air out.

The engine compartment also had a heat problem..and was corrected with a pair of tin snips (ouch )..

Harley Earl was so determined that the car arrive in top styling quality..it held back the arrival of the car and did not have proper time to test.
