C2 - WB Bolt Head Markings

Okay, going really anal here. I'm doing a lot of work in the radiator support area of my '63, fixing things as I go. A LOT of the bolts in this area are 5/16" x 1" long bolts with the "WB" head mark. I've found several in place that appear to be identical to the WB's but they say, "WB 1C" (WB over the 1C). The scratch test indicates that they are probably the same hardness.

Any idea what that 1C is telling us? Are they perhaps used in a particular area or for a particular application?

    As always, thanks!!

Pete The WB is the manufacturers initials. WB is for Wales Beech Corp.. The 1C, I too can only guess that it is a grade marking. There are also WB2C bolts found on 53-62 front crossmember to frame assy.. TR bolts, Towne Robinson Fastener Co.. TR bolts will have grade markings like other bolts. LE is for Lake Erie Screw Corp.. Pete:
Tim Gilmore authored an article in the Corvette Restorer a few years back that covered many of the fasteners and the headmarks found on C2's. He would be a good source for the answer to your question.
Tim is membership chairman of the NCRS Texas chapter.
