    C1 What the heck?

I just bought a 1954 and it has a metal ID tag on the right side of the car on the firewall. It's in German and has information about the car, make, year, etc. stamped on it. The preprinted information is in German and the stamped information is in English. It's black and silver. The water temperature guage is in Celsius rather than Farenheit. I thought I had a problem at first because the engine only warms up to about 80 degrees. LOL

Has anyone ever seen this before? Does it mean that this car was made for export and/or belonged to the CEO of Mercedes Benz or something (just kidding, of course).

I saw a car on Glassman's website that has a similar plate on a C1 and the speedo is in kilo's.

      Roy:

Is that good or bad? I was going to change the temp guage for a standard unit but maybe I should leave it alone?

                Randy,

Have a look at these pictures:

French tag: Another french tag: Belgium tag: KM Speedo:
PS Could you send me a picture of this import tag and any other import related anomalies since I'm collecting these for a future articles (e.g. speedo in km's, original lights (these were different as well, not T3's), temp gauge in C., etc. etc.)

                greetings,

The web site doesn't absorb the storage space overhead of accepting pictures. What you do is go to the website of your choice that supplies picture posting, post your picture, then cut & paste the URL directive into your post that points to where your picture is hosted.

There are quite a few sites that promote internet picture display by offering users the ability to post their pictures for free. These include most of the digital camera manufacturers as well as other independents. Also, quite a few of the larger ISP's 'spot' you a fixed amount of on-line storage for your account that you can 'burn' by posting your pix there...
