    72 Door Jamb Switch Pins

What is the correct length for the pins? Does the SX on the head mean it is correct or were SX pins used in other cars and thus may not be correct for my car? Any hints on identifying correct pins would be appreciated.

Re: 72 Door Jamb Switch Pins

The SX embossed door switches are considered factory original. All of the switches used in the door jamb area are 'self-adjusting' in terms of length. There's an interference fit between the plunger shaft and the hex nut at the base of the switch.

Originally, the switches were installed at their fully extended length then the door was closed. This pushed the plunger shaft through the hex nut causing it to 'learn' the proper length for that particular door.

To install a used original switch on a new door, you first need to 'reset' it by forcing the plunger shaft back through the hex nut to recover the switch's fully extended length. Then, do as the factory folks did; install the switch and shut the door to collapse the plunger shaft to the correct length for that particular door/door jamb...
