66 Corvette rear turn signal problem

I am not good at electrical problems so maybe some of you experts can give me some help. My problem is when I turn on my right turn signal both rear LT and RT will flash. When I turn on the left turn signal only the front left will flash. I get nothing on the left rear. I tried grounding the left rear but that did not help. Anyone have a suggestion what I might try next?

What does the T/S do when you have the brakes on?

Bill, Thanks for your response. There is no difference with the brakes on. Any more suggestions?

Re: 66 Corvette rear turn signal problem

Did this problem begin as a result of some work on the wiring harness in the car...or di the signals just quit working correctly? When you have both rear signals flashing together is the correct front lite also flashing?

My gut feel if they just quit working correctly is there is a possible problem in the turn signal switch in the steering column.

        A little trouble shooting.....

Using your wiring diagram as a guide, disconnect the semi circular plug coming from the steering column and jumper 12v to the leads into the body wiring and going to each lite individually per the following:

Yellow wire feeds left rear signal
Dark Green wire feeds right rear signal
Dark Blue wire feeds right front signal AND right dash signal lite
Lite blue wire feeds left front signal AND left dash signal lite

If all lites lite correctly when the appropriate lead is jumpered, then the switch is the problem. If you still experience the faults stated in your post above, then your problem is elsewhere in the wirng harnesses

        Good luck

          Steve,

Thanks so much for your help. I did rebuild the steering columm and I did put in a new turn signal switch. I will make the tests you suggested and see what happens.

          Thanks again,

          Ken

            Ken,
had a similar problem last week with my 66....replaced the turn signal switch/harness( due to a split where the screw holds the turn signal arm causing the arm to stay loose)(Real Fun job) which in turn caused the following NEW problem:right turn signal on, both dash signal lights flash & right rear flash, left turn signal on, no dash light but left rear would flash, no signal on & the right dash signal would be on.Found that the NEW switch was defective(Purchased from LI Corvette)took a run to Zip's in Richmond Va. & picked up a New switch which worked perfectly.I.E....sounds like your problem could be in the harness as long as you made all the right re-connects prior......Bob

              Ken,

I had a similar problem on my '66. It turned out that when I reconnected the harness connectors that run along the steering column, I didn't push them together tight enough. Hopefully your solution will be as easy.
