Frank ---- Check the Corvette Black Book. IMSMC, the numbers are published in it. My copies are at not here at the office.

My 2003 edition of the Black Book also doesn't have the 1969 production numbers for each exterior colour.

So far the Corvette color production numbers for model year 1969 and 1970 have not been found. There are some other years, 1973 comes to mind, which are also missing.

As you wrote, it could be that the numbers have not been identified. My '69 is also Fathom Green, therefore production quantities would be nice to have.

Has anyone checked Rick Bizicco's book? I seem to remember seeing production numbers of exterior paint colors somewhere but have no books here at the office. I'll check some at home tonight and, if found, post the numbers then.

Since numbers for '69 are not available, look at the numbers for '68 and '71, which are the closest years. In '68 green was the most popular color, and in '71 it was the second most popular. Odds are that it was very similar in '69. My advice would be to look at the percentage of '68's that were painted green (4779 / 28566) or 16.7%, then apply that to the 38762 cars built in '69. That leaves you with an estimate of 6481 cars painted Fathom Green.

Another method of estimating color options is from survey information. The 1970 Corvette Registry has accumulated some data from over 700 entries with color options. A pie chart summarizes that data so one could extrapolate at one's own risk. Below is the link to that chart. It would be nice to have that chart updated.

Checked all my books. You are correct, there are no production figures provided for '69 or '70 exterior paint colors. But then, I'm just learning to discover through reading profiles who I'm dealing with prior to answering posts. Pray tell, how were the other model years production numbers found among the archives?

Shannon's post regarding extrapolation from previous and post model years is ingenious, realizing that tastes probably didn't change dramatically from one year to the next, perhaps we could closely approximate the numbers even though there would be room for conjecture. Tony's method, estimating from survey information, could bolster those assumptions.

According to Mike Antonick

I'm working with Mike on publishing a new Corvette enthusiast site that will go live in about 45 days - He's providing monthly articles and factory specs/history, photos, etc. In one of our numerous conversations, I asked him specifically about the color count in '69 because I wanted to know the number of Monaco Orange cars produced - and yes, the factory lost the docs.

Mike has had a key to the back door of GM's record division (so to speak) for almost 30 years - and if the records were there, he'd have published them by now. Great guy, incredible stories.
