    C1 Trunk Latch Cam Design?

    Hi all,

I was installing my trunk latch in my 1960 when I noticed that a piece was missing. I will try to describe where it is located. The lock has a flat rectangular metal tang at the back that turns when they key is turned. The tang turns the piece I am missing. I am imagining the piece as some sort of cam that pushes down on the latch mechanism when it is turned by the tang. I can't seem to find one, so can anyone send me a photo of this item so I can try to fabricate one?

    Thanks,

    Bob

Any early Chevy up to at least 57? latch will have what you need and are the same . Try e-bay or any C1 Corvette the same , It's pot metal, you'll have to open or bend the housing to get it out then in.

      Bob,

It is common for these cams to be destroyed when sent to the plating shop without being removed first. The cam is made of pot metal, and will be destroyed almost imediately by the acid bath that most platers use. There are 2 little rivets that hold the retainer plate in place,if memory serves me right, and you can replace them with pop rivets when installing the new cam. At one time, Mary Jo Rohner was having this part made, but I recall that she was having a problem with her supplier, but you might check with her anyway. The cost of fabricating a new cam, would exceed the cost of a new latch.

      Regards, John McGraw
