    C2 soft top rear window

Roy Braatz helped me last year with my hazy hardtop rear window. Today, when I got the old girl out for the spring, I noticed the soft top rear window was really water-spotted, and wouldn't clean. Any suggestions? Roy, are you still there?

Your one of the few people that believed me, did it turn out OK? Now if your having trouble getting the water spots out, then again using a plastic cleaner polisher and buffer should do the trick , pretend your buffing the wet sanding out again. Let me know ROY

Roy does you suggestion work on rear hardtop glass as well? And if so can you decribe the process?

        Gene ! YES
Mark! did it on his hard top window
If your plastic window is scratched , foggy , or not clear do to age but not crazed with lines through it . You then using 2500 WET sand paper sand the plastic good then go down to 1500 do it again , after that using a electric buffer on low speed applie a good plastic cleaner polish to remove the sanding. It will come out like new. People have done this for years to restore plastic.
You can do this to any plastic (ANY PLASTIC part)That is what I do to my bubble tops.

          Thanks Roy,

I knew if anyone knew whether this could be done you would. If I interpret you procedure correctly, you start with 1500 grit wet/dry sand paper and wet sand the window and then go to 2500 grit. Then go to plastic polish.

Would 2000 grit help between 1500 and 2500 applications help or isn't it necessary?

Last step is the finer sand paper, always using lots of water while sanding and last polish , just ask Mark about it also , like my pic. that's what I do to clean up the top after some years handling it , it's simple , no brainer!! If I can do it you can!

After I found the original green bubble top it was so dull and scratched that you could not see through it, Dan the ( glassman) my brother-in-law here is sanding and buffing the top, it took hours and hours but after he was done see next pic. He is still sanding spots and buffing , deep scratches he had to leave but it came out looking new.
The reason I'm showing and telling people is because most think you cant do this to plastic and are afraid to try.

                      Gene:

Mark here, the guy who posted this message. Last year, I asked the Board about my foggy hardtop rear window, and followed Roy's advice. My '65s hardtop window is now line NEW! I didn't use a plastic cleaner, though, I used 3M PerfectIt glaze. Perfect. It's now like new.

Thanks again Roy, for your advice.

                        Micromesh

Great tips Roy. Just a note here too... On airplanes the windshields get scratched and chipped all the time from the runway FOD. The windshields are made of clear plastic. They are easy to buff up using MicroMesh. It's MUCH MUCH finer than and sand paper. The micromesh goes to around 6000 grit. Use it with water and a few other buffing compounds and it does amazing things. Also, if you have DEEP gouges you can take them out. Just start out with 400 grit sand paper and work your way finer. Evertime you change grits, move the area out 2 inches in diameter. Keep working your way finer and finer until you are using 6000 micromesh. Also, did you know you can do this to glass too? It works great on glass windshiels that have been scratched by windshield wipers. But it takes a LOT longer.

One tip here too. NEVER go in circles. Always go in lines. Up and down, right and left. If you go in circle it will be hard to see through the plastic when the sun is shining. Sounds strange but it's very true--never circles!

P.S. When you buy Micromesh it often comes with instructions.
