I purchased a new distributor cap about 15 years ago for my 1965 250HP (C 2).
I recently dug it out and noticed that it is a D308R-B, P/N 12338692. It has no Delco Remy markings on the top or inside. How does this part differ from the D308R (1971244) and the original D308??
Well, let's see, 15 years ago, it was a GM service replacement part, made by some low bid vendor, likely not Delco Remy, and carrying none of the original markings that define the original part. It was sold as a functional replacement, which it likely is.
Your original '65 distributor cap would have been a D308 (not D308-R). The top would have been embossed 'Delco Remy' and "Pat Pending". Later versions of the same cap (D308-R) would have three emboss marks on the top "Delco Remy", "Pat Pending" and "R". Still later versions (Shark era) would change to "Delco Remy", "Pat No. 2789041" and the "R" mark.
Reasonable reproductions (so I've heard) are now available through catalog distribution houses of the D308 distributor cap at reasonable prices. Check the archives for prior threads on this since the first of the year...
